It is constantly growing to include data from other bureaus within the department (such as groundwater investigation and remediation data) as well as data sets from outside agencies and volunteer groups. In the future it will also incorporate tissue data. The EMD is patterned after the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) STORET database, http://www.epa.gov/storet/ which is a repository for water quality, biological, and physical data. Periodically data sets are uploaded from the EMD to the STORET data warehouse, http://www.epa.gov/storet/dw_home.html Data is available free through the warehouse website or through NHDES' web site at http://des.nh.gov/. Like the STORET structure, the EMD is organized by contributing organization and project. Data can be queried by these factors and several others such as station type, town, waterbody, analyte, medium time period, etc. through the NHDES web site. Data quality, temporal and spatial coverage, sampling and analytical methods, analytes measured, and instrumentation vary by project within the database. Raw field and laboratory measurements are included in the database. Sometimes data was physically collected outside NH's boundaries but was included since it was relevant to a project. Before using the data, users are encouraged to contact the project lead. Data usage should also be properly cited.
